You could read the title of 2001’s In Torment in Hell as a description of the band’s own mood at the time, and not just another round of their usual dark metaphysical and religious fixations. Members were at each other’s throats and at war with their label — this turned out to be their last record for Roadrunner — and the reviews from fans, and from the band itself, were less than kind. Time has been good to it. The tempos here run even faster than usual, and cuts like “Child of God” and the title track still land as a head-spinning death metal anti-exorcism.
For its 25th anniversary the album has been remastered for vinyl and pressed on appropriately infernal red smoke wax. This is the first stand-alone release on LP, and the insert comes with it.
