Ten years in, Whitechapel marked the occasion with Mark of the Blade, and singer Phil Bozeman sums up the idea behind it neatly: "The theme of 'Mark of the Blade' is a celebration of Whitechapel being together for ten years and the fans that support us no matter what." The sextet has kept outsiders away from the writing room for all eleven of these tracks — no outside producer dictating a direction, just the six of them. Groove carries more weight here than the blastbeat-driven death metal of earlier records, and the band pushes into territory it hadn't explored before, lyrically as much as sonically. Pressed on Gold Metallic Black Dust vinyl.
