How do you follow a debut that shifted millions? Pearl Jam didn't try to remake Ten. By the time Vs. landed, the Seattle band were one of grunge's great hopes in the early Nineties, and rather than coast on another set of towering anthems they let things get a bit stranger. Huge guitar songs still turn up (Animal), yet so does the tender, folky Daughter and the Southern-funk politics of Glorified G. Vs. set a record for most albums sold in its first week, and it remains a good measure of how eclectic Pearl Jam could be.
