Brett Anderson on vocals, Allison Robertson on guitar, Maya Ford on bass and Torry Castellano on drums. The Donnas had a formidable front woman, a guitar heroine and a pummeling rhythm section, and with that lineup they ranked among the greatest punk bands of the '90s, male or female. Their take on the genre came with a uniquely hedonistic yet feminist viewpoint.

Everything started here. Recorded while the band was still in high school, The Donnas' 1997 debut is one of the most infectious, sing-along slabs of punk ever waxed. The Ramones loom large — the shared “anonymous” names alone give that away — and the girls gleefully turn the sex, drugs, and rock and roll dials up to 11, except this time it's the females looking for some action (“I wanna huff all night” and “I'm gonna get in his pants tonight” are two representative lyrical lines).

For this Real Gone reissue you get The Donnas raw and unfiltered. We actually scored the original quarter-inch 2-track master tape to the album, so this is an all-analog version of the punk-rock masterpiece. Band commentary just adds to the fun.
