Current Joys is the solo project of Surf Curse drummer Nick Rattigan, and ROSEBUD marks album number ten — his boldest reinvention yet. Written through a difficult stretch and reworked with producer never goodbye (Danny Dwyer), it turns a set of stripped-back slowcore songs into a maximalist collage: nu metal, screamo, electronica, hip-hop, power-pop, emo, darkwave. Big anthemic hooks get shouted through layers of static. Punk chord progressions get chewed up by digital manipulation, and striking tenderness keeps surfacing underneath the noise.
There's a milestone here too. ROSEBUD is the first album Rattigan is self-releasing through his own imprint They Are Evil, after years on Secretly Canadian — back to the artistic freedom of his early Bandcamp days. The track record speaks for itself: Triple-Platinum and Gold certifications, a place in Spotify's Billions Club with Surf Curse (1.77B+ streams), extensive world tours, and collaborations with Lil Yachty, Edward Skeletrix and Matt Proxy. His cult classics "Kids" and "Televisions" recently turned up in the 2026 horror film Obsession, introducing the music to a whole new generation.
