CHAT PILE 'GOD'S COUNTRY' Debut Album LP on Grimace Purple Vinyl

LABEL: Flenser
RELEASE DATE: 07/29/2022
VARIANT: Grimace Purple Vinyl LP

Colored vinyl version on Grimace Purple. There's a sick irony in a country that preaches individual freedom while happily selling human life like meat for capitalism's endless appetite. God's Country, the first full length from Oklahoma City noise rock quartet Chat Pile, is that idea turned into sound.

The band lives beside the piles of toxic refuse they take their name from, and the fatalism of daily life in the American Midwest runs through everything they record, this debut album most of all. Exhausted by the pandemic, the hopelessness of climate change, the cattle shoot of global capitalism, and fueled by a whole lot of THC, God's Country admits the Earth's most assured demise while snarling back at it. Across its over forty minute runtime the record holds Chat Pile's most aggressively unhinged moments next to their most contemplatively nuanced ones, drawing on their two prior EPs and their score for the 2021 film Tenkiller. In the band's own words, it's Oklahoma's specific brand of misery, chaos taken on its own terms instead of accepted quietly. This is what the end of the world sounds like.
