Two nights at London's Royal Albert Hall gave the Yeah Yeah Yeahs room to strip their songs back. Strings, piano and double bass replace the usual wall of guitars across Hidden in Pieces: Live (at the Royal Albert Hall), a set drawn from every stage of a twenty-five-year run. Karen O, Nick Zinner and Brian Chase also pull in performances from San Diego, Chicago, New York and Mexico City, so the record stretches well past those London shows.
Arrangements come from music director, arranger and conductor Jherek Bischoff, who built the collection around the band's Hidden In Pieces tour. Standards such as "Maps," "Gold Lion" and "Zero" sit beside newer material, "Blacktop" and "Spitting Off the Edge of the World" among them. The whole thing lands on Bullseye Splatter vinyl, two LPs in all.
