Sub Pop and The Album Leaf mark 20 years of the 2006 album Into the Blue Again with this limited pressing on orange vinyl.
After roughly 18 months on the road for 2004's In a Safe Place, Jimmy LaValle shut himself away for six months in his San Diego house with one job: writing the next record. For a musician whose credits run from Tristeza and the Locust to GoGoGo Airheart, The Black Heart Procession and Iceland's Sigur Ros, that much free time was a first. The result is his fourth full-length. Recorded in December 2005 at Bear Creek Studio, a converted turn-of-the-century barn outside Seattle, Into the Blue Again returns to the project's roots, with LaValle handling most of the vocals and instruments himself. He then took the feathered keyboards, filmy strings and chiseled drums to Iceland for three weeks of mixing to tape, keeping that Brian Eno-informed translucence intact. Having spent so long sharing space with other people on tour, LaValle makes the case here that The Album Leaf hits hardest when he works alone.
