VARIANT: Opaque Purple Vinyl LP
This opaque purple vinyl pressing of Hempispheres captures Sleep in a reshaped form. Al Cisneros, the founding member and lead songwriter, shares the room with drummer Dale Crover (Melvins, Redd Kross) and guitarist Bubba Dupree (Void). Rather than repeat a formula, the record leans into nuance and subtlety while holding on to the interplay that has anchored the band since the beginning. Matt Pike's amicable exit still gets argued about online, sure. Put the needle down and the argument fades — five tracks spread over two sides, and not the Sleep album anyone had pencilled in.
