Sleep returns with a lineup reshuffled around founding member and lead songwriter Al Cisneros, who now works alongside drummer Dale Crover (Melvins, Redd Kross) and guitarist Bubba Dupree (Void). Hempispheres trades overload for nuance and subtlety, and the interplay that defined the band from the start is still intact. Long-time guitarist Matt Pike sits this one out, a departure the messageboards have chewed over plenty. What arrives instead isn't the Sleep record anyone predicted. Five tracks, roughly 38 minutes of it.
