A dangerous meeting of the minds, 1984’s Don’t Break the Oath presents Danish metal ghouls Mercyful Fate at the height of their nefarious powers. The band’s second full-length portals you into a fiery pool of twin-guitar harmonies, devilishly progressive arrangements and an onslaught of soprano-howled sermons from King Diamond. It gets eccentrically Satanic, and songs like “Come to the Sabbath” led many Eighties metalheads towards pledging their fandom eternally. Sporting one of the most awesomely-chilling, yet flames-engulfed album covers of all time, pick up this work of art on “Orange, Yellow & Black Smoke” vinyl.
