Madonna is the self-titled debut studio album from Madonna, released on July 27, 1983 by Sire Records. For the 1985 international re-release it carried a new name, Madonna: The First Album. In 1982 Madonna was still building a reputation as a singer in Downtown New York when she met Sire president Seymour Stein, who signed her after hearing the single "Everybody". That single did well enough for Sire to sign her for an album. Reggie Lucas was brought in as primary producer, and Madonna wrote five of the eight tracks by herself. The finished tracks didn't please her, though, and she disagreed with Lucas's production techniques, so John "Jellybean" Benitez was invited in to help finish the record. He remixed many of the tracks and produced "Holiday".
