Formed in Gothenburg, Sweden, in 1990, In Flames have spent decades proving that a band can chase its own sound and still find an audience. Countless tours, a steady stream of albums, and a long line of younger acts citing them as an influence — the melodic metal veterans have kept moving without ever abandoning what made them.
Guitarist Björn Gelotte puts the approach plainly: “We decided early on we are going to do this band our way and aren’t going to think about what the flavor of the month is.” He goes on to say the group has to stand behind every song it plays, and that as long as the members love the material and listeners feel that, it counts as an In Flames song. “That may sound like a cliché but it’s true. We need the music to be as interesting to us as it is to our fans because this has never just been a job for us, it’s a way of life.”
This pressing marks the album’s 25th anniversary on silver vinyl — a good excuse to hear it the way it was meant to be played.
