VARIANT: Black Vinyl LP
Funkadelic's second album arrived in 1970, just months after their trailblazing debut, and it tightened the songcraft while leaving room for long exploratory jams. The origin story is famous: one marathon session on LSD.
It also marks the official arrival of keyboardist Bernie Worrell. On the charts the record reached No. 92 on Billboard's Pop chart.
Part of Org Music's Westbound Records reissue series, this edition restores the album's full sonic impact across several formats. Vinyl variants are all analog, mastered direct from tape to lathe by Dave Gardner at DSG Mastering, and they come in gatefold jackets. A 2xLP version, cut at 45 RPM for the highest fidelity listen, sits in a case-wrapped jacket.
Gardner and restoration specialist Catherine Vericolli archived and restored the original master tapes at 54 Sound Studios in Ferndale, Michigan, with help from in-house engineer Nick King. CD, cassette and digital editions exist too.
