Everything on Bonus Fat was compiled in 1985, drawing on the first single, 1981's Fat EP and the stray outtake Global Probing. Eight tracks, no filler. Across them you can trace a young band shedding its surf-pop skin: the opening numbers stay bright and breezy, while the Fat EP side pushes into faster, meaner hardcore. New Alliance Records, the Minutemen's own label, handled the original release, and the material gathered here laid the floor for the debut album that followed.
