LIMITED MARBLE VINYL PRESSING MARKING THIRTY YEARS SINCE THE RELEASE OF THE CLASSIC DARKTHRONE ALBUM OF COLD NORWEGIAN BLACK METAL. FEATURING NEW AUDIO MASTER.
The band came together in the late 80s playing thrash and death metal, then spent a while on technical death/doom experiments before settling into the sound that made them. Founding names of the Norwegian scene, in other words. A whole generation of metal bands took notes.
Their sixth full-length, Total Death, first appeared in 1996. The two records before it had been cut at Fenriz's Necrohell portable home studio. For this one the pair went back to a traditional studio set-up, Ancient Spectre Ruins, tracking the songs across 2 sessions held there in August and October 1995.
Songwriting duties were split evenly between Fenriz and Nocturno Culto. Nocturno wrote the words for his own tracks, while Fenriz handed lyric duty to four names from the Norwegian scene: Garm of Ulver, Ihsahn of Emperor, Carl-Michael Eide of Aura Noir and Ved Buens Ende, and Satyr of Satyricon. Expect a classic dose of mid- and up-tempo black metal, plus thrashy turns such as the track Blasphemer.
Pressed for the 30th anniversary, this edition comes on limited marble vinyl and carries the recent audio master update from Patrick Engel at Temple of Disharmony.
