Ten years on, Clipping's Hugo Award-nominated sci-fi opus gets the anniversary treatment. Splendor & Misery (Anniversary X) comes with revised art, the original album, and eight previously unreleased songs and alternate takes.

The record is an Afrofuturist, dystopian concept album about the last survivor of a slave uprising on an interstellar cargo ship, and the onboard computer that falls in love with him. Believing he's alone and lost in space, he finds music in the ship's shuddering hull and chirping instrument panels. Clipping map the decks, hallways and quarters through sound, while Daveed Diggs' lyrics ride rhythms generated by the engines and machinery. Splendor & Misery landed on multiple year-end lists and drew praise from The New York Times, Bandcamp Daily, CLASH, The Line Of Best Fit, The Needle Drop, Uproxx, The Observer and Stereogum; in 2019, Pitchfork placed it among the 33 best industrial albums of all time. The group marked the album in August 2026 with Splendor & Misery Fest at NYC's Knockdown Center, joined by SPELLLING, Shabazz Palaces, ELUCID, Fatboi Sharif, evicshen and Maria Chavez.
