Nearly twenty years into playing his way around the world as The Tallest Man on Earth, Kristian Matsson still gets filed under American folk. Just Beyond Endless Mountain, out October 9th on Anti- Records, makes that filing look lazy.
Back in his native Dalarna, in central Sweden, Matsson found himself drawn to the music he'd spent years trying to leave behind — polskas, old field recordings, the local traditions that surrounded him as a kid. Not a nostalgia trip, then. Swedish folk has reshaped his melodies, his singing and the way he builds a song, and what comes out is the most deeply rooted album of his career.
