"Piece Of Time" is the debut from Florida's ATHEIST and still a revered milestone in progressive metal, a record that helped lay the groundwork for what we now call technical death metal. Jazzy bass lines sit next to vicious vocals, riffs keep shifting shape, and the drum patterns are genuinely impressive. Recorded back in 1988, it showed extreme music could be far more than a barrage of noise. Colin Marston (Gorguts, Imperial Triumphant, Krallice) handled the remaster, and the album belongs beside Cynic and Death in any serious collection.
